Things We Carry

A life accumulates things.

Not only possessions.

Voices. Places. Habits. Letters. Photographs. Jokes remembered years later. Something somebody once said that stayed.

Some people remain with us long after they have gone.

Not always dramatically.

Sometimes in the smallest ways.

A turn of phrase.

A piece of music.

The way a particular afternoon felt.

An object kept for no reason that needs explaining.

This is a place for some of those things.

For people, places and fragments worth carrying forward.

For memories that still have warmth in them.

For lessons that arrive late.

For things inherited without ever being formally given.

For people we miss.

And perhaps for leaving a few things here for our future selves.

Not everything needs explaining.

Some things are simply carried.

Quietly.

For as long as they need to be.
